LIVING IN HARMONY TO SURVIVE

"Walga Rock"
Oil on 76x40cm canvas
"It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the those that are most adaptable to change, that survive.  In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment." Charles Darwin

There is an important message here for the human race. To adapt to our environment and not to try to control or destroy it if we wish to survive as a race. To adapt to our environment should not mean destroying our own or other species or destroying or consuming the physical world in order to survive.

Living in harmony with each other and with the environment seems a good way to start.

Working only on changes and improvements to ourselves because we have no real power to change others.
Some of the virtuous qualities that we may need to implement into our own lives in order to live in harmony and survive as a race include,
compassion
courage
courtesy
creativity
detachment
determination
enthusiasm
excellence
faithfulness
flexibility
friendliness
honesty
humility
justice
kindness
love
loyalty
mercy
moderation
modesty
obedience
patience
prayerfulness
reliability
respect
responsibility
reverence
service
tact
thankfulness
tolerance
trust
truthfulness
unity

DOING GOOD

Yachts on Pelican Point

This one of my plein air paintings completed on the beach at Matilda Bay. Oil on 25x30cm canvas. It has been sold, but will be happy to take commissions for similar paintings.

Some you will be aware that I am passionate about a better future for the world, for people and the environment and where the qualities of Justice, Peace and Harmony can be universally applied for the benefit of all human beings. I now also realise that this is unlikely to be achieved through war, violence, political, economic or religious activities or controls.
But it is achievable

May be I am naïve, but I sincerely believe in the potential
outlined in the following quotation.

“The betterment of the world can be accomplished through pure and goodly deeds and through commendable and seemly conduct.”
― Bahá'u'lláh

For me , this is a very true statement, so I should focus most of my activities on things I can do and control myself.

"Pure and Goodly deeds".

If that makes me a "do gooder" then so be it.

Beautiful images can inspire beautiful words such as this poem about Faith

THIS IS FAITH

To walk where there is no path
To breathe where there is no air
To see where there is no light --... Read More
This is Faith.

To cry out in the silence,
The silence of the night,
And hearing no echo believe
And believe again and again --
This is Faith.

To hold pebbles and see jewels
To raise sticks and see forests
To smile with weeping eyes --
This is Faith.

To say: "God, I believe" when others deny,
"I hear" when there is no answer,
"I see" though naught is seen --
This is Faith.

And the fierce love in the heart,
The savage love that cries
Hidden Thou art yet there!
Veil Thy face and mute Thy tongue
Yet I see and hear Thee, Love,
Beat me down to the bare earth,
Yet I rise and love Thee, Love!"
This is Faith.
