I am infatuated with these Spider Lilies. I have a friend who grows them and I paint them each year when they bloom. I painted this small ala prima study 20x30cm in 3 hrs - well almost ala prima, spent another 20 mins this morning tidying up and signing

After six weeks recovering from open heart surgery I am at last able to paint in the landscape again. Here are two WIP plein air paintings completed in a two hour session yesterday. I will post the completed paintings soon

This is the first "block-in" drawn freehand from the image on my screen in Raw Umber and lots of medium




I will post progressive stages of the painting.

The original is approx 16"x18", but my study will be 12"x14" (excluding the heading at the top) I will work in acrylic paints. The following is a photograph of my Half French easel set up in my study showing the wet paint keeper which keep acrylics open for around a week, the glass top palette, water jar, water spray and acrylic medium etc

I am still confined to the house and studio during recovery from heart surgery.

Unlike most of my painting that are inspired and painted directly from nature, this is a conceptual painting based on remembered images of yachts on the Swan River.

The subject which I have painted before, is based on one of my photographs. I am reasonably happy with the result. Painted in the studio in approximately six 1 hour sessions while recovering from surgery

FIRST PAINTING 2008

Just 18 days after surgery I am painting again, cautiously and not without pain, but here it is.

Its acrylic paint on heavy WC paper 11x31cm, painted from memory and imagination of a location on the Swan river
